On our way into Nairobi yesterday, we found the road we normally turn on blocked with masses of people, burning tires, and heard what sounded like gun shots (later we were told that it was police firing tear gas canisters).
Before we had figured out what was going on, we had dropped off a couple of passengers, and driven back up to where we could get our car washed. The guys that do the car told us someone had been shot, and that the car wash was closed because of the riot... "maybe you could come back tomorrow", one said.
So we headed back down where we had dropped off our passengers, picked them up and headed on a different route to Nairobi, which happened to pass through our passengers destination.
On a phone call, Corinna was telling her uncle who was visiting Nairobi, we've encountered a minor emergency, we'll be in a bit later than we expected. I guess if that was a minor emergency, we are becoming fairly acclimated to our new home.
