Beginning stages

Doug and I  are now in the preparation stages for Africa. If you stopped by our house you may catch us digging through old boxes for vehicle records for the sale of a car, sorting through paperwork about appointments for the doctor, the dentist and the ophthalmologist, digging up the backyard to do final house preparations, and etc.
We interviewed with Mennonite Central Committee back in the second week of September, 2011 in Spokane, Wa (we were traveling) on a three-way call through our computer with HR folks in Pennsylvania and the Representatives in Kenya.  We were offered an assignment to Najile, the following week, which we accepted.
We will be sharing a position called Food Security Coordinator.  Once we get to Kenya and learn more about the position, we will figure out more how each of us contributes to the role.  We will be a liaison between MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) and their Maasai partners who are running food security programs with the help of funding and support from MCC.  Our food security projects include things like water catchment, goats, HIV/AIDS education and care.
We can use all the support and prayers you can give as we tackle a huge "git-er-done" list with house projects and rental plans. We will most likely be leaving the Twin Cities area early in January in order to visit family before heading to orientation in PA, on to Nairobi for language training (3 months) and then on to Najile, our village in Kenya.
Intermittent electricity permitting, we'll share stories of our transition and our adventure on this blog.
