Remember 2011

Our New Years celebration!!!  Two years ago today Doug and I got engaged out on a frozen lake called Island lake in northern Minnesota at a temperature of -25 F. Today is a balmy 27 F...

We believe God has used the events of the year to prepare us for the coming year.  We hope to attend Mennonite Central Committee orientation in PA and head to Nairobi for 3 months of studying Maa and then begin our work as liaisons between MCC and Maasai groups working on food and water projects in Southwest Kenya. We were blessed with many visits with family and friends and a chance to visit special places.

To remember the year 2011...

Illinois snow storm

Spending time with my older sister's family through the challenge of chemo and radiation.

This was the 2nd year of building a basement apt around ourselves...

Boundary Waters ski trip in February.
Mom and Dad made a road trip to help us with our house projects.
We celebrated the end of the long chemo/radiation run!
Exploring along the Superior Hiking Trail- a bi-annual backpack trip.
Big Tornado hit North Minneapolis
160 miles in 4 days on our bikes.
Our garden grew!

A memorable day of water games in Pennsylvania.
New diagnosis lead to new dietary restrictions

We took some friends to the Boundary Waters

A beaver timed it just right in the sunrise

A cement project with the help of good friends who live upstairs.

A chance to visit the mountains again- back in familiar terrain.

More cement projects with more helpful friends.

Picture of our finished apt taken to entice renters since we're heading to MCC.  The construction was officially finished on Christmas Eve 2011, for the record.

Thanksgiving with my older sister and her family from Illinois and the friends upstairs-what a treat!

All of Doug's family together

My youngest sister and her husband made the 2 day trip from Va to help attack our monster to-do list for leaving for Africa.

Christmas Eve our last big storage load...

A warm sunny Christmas walk on frozen Pine Lake in Minnesota.
One of our cars is sold, our house is officially under the care of the property manager, our other car is stored and our apt is almost empty. We've got one more week to go. This week is about final decisions of what to take to Kenya in our boxes, last minute errands, and last minute visits with friends. We fly to Illinois to start the rounds of visits to my (Corinna's) siblings and parents on Jan. 8, 2012.  We will make our way to our orientation on Jan. 23, in Akron, PA.

  1. Love the photo reminiscing of the year! Your apt kitchen looks amazing, but the beaver sunrise takes the cake. I could look at that every morning and not get tired of it for years, I think!!

  2. The apartment looks fabulous! Wish we could've made the trip too, but we had other "fires" to tend this year. =) Looking forward to seeing you soon!
