Christmas in Maasailand (photos by Lyndsay)

We had a wonderful Christmas even if our couch was a little small for four people! Two MCC workers (one fellow Kenya team member and one from the South Sudan team) joined us for Christmas Eve and Day. We all pitched in and shared various traditions from our families and feasted like crazy. These are our Christmas cracker crowns.

We decorated with lights, candles, and someone brought candy canes...

One thing took us by surprise:  a few hundred people descended upon the church next to our house and hung out just across our fence to celebrate Christmas.  There were three "kitchens" going where the ladies set up cooking under a tree.  They brought their huge pots, had three or so fires per kitchen and cooked like crazy. I took a bag of vegetables out to contribute. Since we had guests and had our own feast already planned, we didn't spend much time mingling with the Maasai masses. I felt a bit torn, but I'd had no idea this was going to happen so we went on with our plans with our guests. 

After our own feast, we took a walk to view the sunset and were able to greet various folks along the way.
